All Things Social

In 1997, Andrew Haglington shortened the word “socialising” to “social” and set up The Social Group. Everything now named “social group”, “social event”, “social networking”, “social media”, and “social enterprise” all stems from the terms we put together and started to use. For all things “social”, it can only be The Social Group.

Just to be clear, social networking is British. Andrew Haglington is the man who invented social networking and started off everything that went on to become social media in the modern context. It was Andrew Haglington who came up with the idea to use the name “social” in this context.

Fabulous as they are, the American social media services Facebook and Twitter did not invent social networking and do not call themselves “Social Group” as that was already our name for years before they existed.

The Social Group is “The Social Network”.

 

South West Social Network

Our home area is South West England, where we first started social networking and where we run a much larger more varied and extensive programme of social events, dining out, parties, themed events, entertainment, get-togethers, walks, and outdoor activities – with as many as up to five events per day for members to choose from! There’s plenty on offer in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, and Bristol areas, and Social Group Directors often personally host events in each local area. Further afield, there’s a choice of UK Party Weekends and International Social Group Holidays.

For people living outside South West England, our UK National “Associate” Membership offers a programme of UK Party Weekends and International Social Group Holidays. We don’t offer the often daily events like we do in South West England, but Associate Membership is offered at a reduced price and it’s ideal for those who like to take part in weekend breaks with party nights and dancing here in the UK. Those wishing to join in with International Social Group Holidays can fly out from a convenient local airport and meet up with the group at the resort destination.

International Social Network

People outside the UK can join in with The Social Group. Our International Social Group website http://internationalsocial.wordpress.com/
caters for the people from outside the UK who wish to join in with International Social Group Holidays, where people fly out from a local area airport and meet up with the group in the resort destination.

Over the years some UK Social Group members have moved abroad to live in other countries. Expat ex-members are invited to follow us on Twitter and stay in touch as part of our network of friends around the world.

 

 

 

Social networking is all about connecting and bringing people together. It’s such a shame when you lose touch with people you like. Numerous ex-members, business contacts, and friends regularly keep in touch with us from all over the world and it’s quite a community we have built up.
